New 2025 Raku Workshops
The Raku Adventure
Raku firing is a technique that originated in Japan where wares are heated in a kiln then removed while hot. Western-style raku involves placing these red-hot pots into a bed of combustibles, like straw and sawdust, then covering them to create a reduction atmosphere that affects the colors in glazes and clay bodies.
A raku workshop at the Canton Clay Works is an exciting, hands-on process where participants will glaze their work in a selection of beautiful raku glazes rarely offered in workshops, then help fire their work throughout the day. Take advantage of Tim Scull's 30 years of raku firing expertise and techniques are very specific to achieve particular and desired results. A wealth of knowledge and information will be shared in this workshop and will most certainly bring terrific results.
This is a workshop that requires manual labor including shoveling and light lifting. Participants will not be expected to lift hot work with metalworking tongs, but will be near open flame.
Each participant may bring up to Up to 20 pots 4 cubic feet max
CCW has a variety of clays for sale that would be recommended.
Participants will receive a detailed PDF guide with further instruction prior to the workshop.
